You can always register by going to the Loopt Signup Page, but other methods are listed below by device and/or wireless provider if available. Select a link below to view instructions for your device and carrier:

BlackBerry® (all wireless providers) - You can register at www.loopt.com from your computer. If you'd prefer to register from your BlackBerry itself, click here to learn how.

Verizon (non-BlackBerry®) - The exact process varies by phone, but one of the following should work:

From your phone's Home Screen, go to Menu and then "Get it Now" or "Media Center."
Depending on your phone, go to "Get Going" or "Tools & on the Go" or "Browse & Download."
Choose "Get New Applications" at the top. Loopt will be listed toward the top of the list or under "Featured."

MetroPCS - The download process varies by phone.

Start at your phone's Home screen and try one of the following:
Go to @metro » Catalog » @connected

or

Go to @metro » MobileShop » @connected
Select Loopt and press "OK". Press "Download" and wait for Loopt to finish downloading.
After the download completes, Loopt should be listed in @metro » MyApps. Click on it to run Loopt and then choose "Register." Follow the on-screen instructions to register.

Sprint Nextel (non-BlackBerry®) - It's easiest to get Loopt by going to the Loopt Signup Page from your computer. Enter your information, and an invitation link will be sent to your phone that you can follow to download Loopt.

Boost Mobile - It's easiest to get Loopt by going to the Loopt Signup Page from your computer. Enter your information, and an invitation link will be sent to your phone that you can follow to download Loopt.

3. How much does Loopt cost?

It depends on which wireless provider and phone you use:

iPhone -

There is NO monthly fee (EVER) for Loopt on iPhone. Since iPhone users on AT&T have unlimited data plans, you shouldn't have to worry about data charges except in special circumstances like international roaming. Please check with your carrier if you anticipate such situations. Loopt uses SMS messaging to allow you to invite friends and provide its service, and while most Loopt messages can be turned off within the Loopt application from the Settings menu, minimal security, registration, and privacy messages are required to provide our service. Please check which messaging plan, if any, you have so that you are aware of any messaging costs that may result from using Loopt.

BlackBerry® (regardless of wireless provider) -

There is no monthly fee for Loopt on BlackBerry®. Loopt uses data to provide its service, so a data plan is required and an unlimited data plan is recommended to use Loopt. Loopt also uses SMS messaging to allow you to invite friends and provide our service, and while most Loopt messages can be turned off within the Loopt application from the Settings menu, minimal security, registration, and privacy messages are required to provide its service. Sprint Nextel -

Loopt is FREE for 14 days and $3.99 per month after the 14-day free trial period. Loopt also uses SMS messaging to allow you to invite friends and provide our service, and while most Loopt messages can be turned off within the Loopt application from the Settings menu, minimal security, registration, and privacy messages are required to provide its service. MetroPCS -

FREE on the $50 Rate Plan
FREE on the $45 Rate Plan
$4 per month after 30-day free trial on the $40 Rate Plan

T-Mobile -

There is no monthly fee for Loopt on T-Mobile G1 phone. Loopt uses data to provide its service, so a data plan is required and an unlimited data plan is recommended to use Loopt. Loopt costs $3.99 per month for Verizon users. Except for the initial download and installation, data associated with using Loopt is free unless you are roaming. Check with Verizon if you plan to roam to understand any additional data charges you may incur. Loopt also uses SMS messaging to allow you to invite friends and provide its service, and while most Loopt messages can be turned off within the Loopt application from the Settings menu, minimal security, registration, and privacy messages are required to provide our service. Boost Mobile -

Loopt is now free for Boost Mobile users! There are no monthly fees or data costs associated with using Loopt except in special cases like roaming. Please check with Boost Mobile if you anticipate roaming or to learn about any other special circumstances under which you may incur additional data costs. Loopt also uses SMS messaging to allow you to invite friends and provide its service, and while most Loopt messages can be turned off within the Loopt application from the Settings menu, minimal security, registration, and privacy messages are required to provide our service. 5. Why am I receiving SMS messages from Loopt? What are they, and how can I stop them?

Non-Loopt Users:

Non-Loopt users may receive messages from Loopt users that include invitations to the service, Pings (location broadcasts), and status updates. Loopt users choose who they would like to send these invitations and messages to from their contact lists, and Loopt then relays them for our customers. Loopt itself never initiates text messages to non-Loopt users. Loopt only sends messages to non-Loopt users when a Loopt subscriber who already has your contact information asks us to convey a message to you on their behalf. You can STOP all messages coming from Loopt users by replying to any such SMS message with STOP, END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, or QUIT.

Loopt Users:

Loopt sends you registration, verification, and security messages that are required to provide the Loopt service. SMS messages initiated by your friends/contacts that you may receive via Loopt include invitations to join Loopt , Pings (location update requests initiated by your friends), Pongs (responses to Pings when your pinged friends update their locations), alerts about new journal comments, alerts that your friends are nearby (only if you set them up), and invitations to events your friends are organizing.

Most or all of these messages except for the security and privacy related messages can be turned off. To do so on the iPhone, open Loopt, then go to the Settings icon in the lower right, and scroll down to SMS Alert Settings. On other devices, open Loopt, scroll to and select the Settings icon (second from the right at the bottom in the shape of a wrench), choose Settings, then Text Alerts, and turn the alerts on and off as you'd like.

Alternatively, you can reply STOP, END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, or QUIT to any Loopt messages you receive to opt out of all messages from Loopt except for the required security and privacy related messages.
